Chevrolet Cruze Image

About the Cruze

A compact car created by General Motors, the Cruze was designed to have worldwide appeal as a four-door sedan (with a five-door hatchback available too).

The first generations came out in 2008 and most of the design work was undertaken by GM Korea.

Intended to replace a number of vehicles in the GM range like the Holden Astra, Daewoo Matiz and the Chevrolet Cobalt, the Cruze was described as the most significant vehicle to be released by General Motors since the Chapter 11 reorganization (a sale of assets of the automobile group ion 2009).

Safety scores were largely good when tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, for the side roof and headrests, the Cruze received ‘good’.

The second generation launched in 2016 for the American market has been postponed by some engineering changes. A new front grille and fastback roofline gave the car a wholly different aesthetic, with new internal technologies like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto bringing the car up to date.

Four trim levels were available, the L, LS, LT and the Premier. Features found across the trim levels were keyless entry, power door locks, power windows, voice control, satellite radio, auxiliary audio input jack, MyLink touch-screen and air conditioning.

Alternatives to the Cruze could be found in the Kia Forte, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla, Honda Insight, Nissan Sentra, VW Jetta, Subaru Impreza, Mazda 3, Volvo S60 and the Nissan Versa.

  • P0496 – A code signaling a strange reading from the vacuum flow. Usually, this means that the vehicle’s evaporative emissions system has found an issue with purge flow.
  • P0299 – A code only found in turbocharged or supercharged vehicles, it points to an under-boost condition under operation.
  • P0420 – Low performance from the catalyst system efficiency. Pointing to the fact that oxygen levels are under the required threshold.
  • P0599 – Indicating a high voltage reading originating from the thermostat heater unit.
  • P0171 – Here, there is either too little fuel or too much oxygen in the exhaust system. This shows that the fuel system on the first bank of the engine is performing poorly or a vacuum leak is found on the side of the engine.
