About the Trailblazer

Created as a mid-sized SUV, the Trailblazer was produced and sold by Chevrolet, a subsidiary of General Motors.

Launched in 1999 as a premium trimmed version of the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer, it became a vehicle in its own right in 2001.

Built upon a truck platform (the GMT360) each model released had four-wheel drive capabilities, the Trailblazer had an independent front suspension system.

There were a number of engine types available ranging from a 4.2-liter to a 6-liter petrol, offered with a number of trim levels too, the LS, LT, LTZ and the performance enhanced SS.

The latter option had polished alloy wheels, SS embroidered bucket seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a choice of either premium cloth or leather upholstery.

Chevrolet created a 7-passenger version (called the EXT) which had a higher roof to the back to allow access to the rear seats.

As the Trailblazer joined a popular category of vehicles in America it had some fierce competition from vehicles like Kia Seltos, Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX-30, Subaru Crosstrek and the Volvo XC40.

Second generations looked very different, with a more rounded aesthetic which was unveiled at the Bangkok Motor Show in 2012.

There were now only three engine variants, two diesels and one petrol, and just two trim levels, the LT and the LTZ.

  • P0089 – An issue with the fuel pressure regulator and this can mean that there is an inconsistency with the fuel pressure regulator.
  • P0506 – Meaning that the Idle air control system RPM is under where it should be, and this is detected by the PCM.
  • P0135 – A generic code meaning that the engine control module has detected an issue with the bank 1 sensor 1 O2 sensor heater circuit.
  • P0606 – An issue with the power control module. The main computer is responsible for monitoring all the important systems.
  • P0741 – This error code can be seen for a number of reasons and a mechanic should be consulted to determine the root of the problem. Specifically translated as ‘Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off.’
