About the Golf
There are not many cars more famous than the VW Golf.
Created by the German car manufacturer Volkswagen, the Golf has lasted nearly five decades, with the first generations selling from 1974.
There have been a number of variations in addition to the standard three-door hatchback; such as a 5 door hatchback, an estate, convertible and saloon.
Winning a plethora of awards, the Golf has been voted European car of the year twice. Other car manufacturers learned quickly form the car’s success and began to bring out their own versions to compete; some of these cars were the SEAT Leon, Ford Focus, Peugeot 308 and the Toyota Corolla.
Originally, VW brought out the Golf as a direct replacement to the Beetle, and although a completely different shape, both cars were compact family cars capable of good performance.
Also, like the Beetle, the Golf has stayed true to its original shape, where modifications have been made throughout its life, the original car is still fully recognizable even in its current format.
Currently, in its eighth generation (first shown in 2019), the Golf is now built upon the updated MQB platform and can be purchased in several different powertrains with many performance special editions available too.
Fault codes that commonly show on the vehicle are:
- P0441 – A detection of a problem inside the EVAP, fuel vapors are not being regulated properly
- P0407 – A generic code for a voltage issue inside the EGR system, the signal is low.
- P0408 – Signaling a problem with the exhaust gas recirculation system. This will cause the check engine light to shine.
- P0420 – Low catalyst system efficiency, essentially, the oxygen levels are under the desired range.
- P0106 – Usually, this means that there is a problem with the MAP circuit.
