About the Outlander
Manufactured by the Japanese car company Mitsubishi, the Outlander is a compact crossover sport utility vehicle and was originally referred to as the ‘Airtrek.’
Sold onwards from 2001, the Outlander was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show and was praised for its high ground clearance and good drive capabilities.
In North America, the Outlander replaced the aging Mitsubishi Montero Sport, and it was just 3 years later that the second generations entered the showrooms.
These later models were more rounded and less fussy (aesthetically speaking) and offered a wide variety of engines, from a 2-liter petrol to a 2.3-liter diesel.
Scoring just over four stars for safety following Euro NCAP testing, the Outlander is currently in its fourth generation, with a styling indicative of the Range Rover Velar.
Taking design queues from the GT-PHEV, a new petrol engine was installed, one that was shared with the Nissan Rogue, these new vehicles included Apple CarPlay, a fully comprehensive infotainment system and a 9-inch touchscreen.
In 2022, the Outlander won ‘Technology Car of the Year’ in the Japan Car of the Year Awards.
Competition came from some other equally strong models such as the Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5, VW Tiguan, Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester, Nissan Rogue, Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-50 and the Hyundai Tucson.
When plugging in an OBD2 reader, some of these codes can be read:
- P0456 – A very small leak was found by the engine control module. This fault has to happen twice before the code is alerted.
- P0421 – An issue found inside the vehicle exhaust system relating to the catalytic converter.
- P0420 – A poor catalyst system efficiency.
- P0171 – Signaling either too little fuel or too much oxygen.
- P0016 – The relationship between the crankshaft position and the camshaft is incorrect.
