About the Caliber
Constructed as a compact hatchback, the Caliber was a model released by the Dodge division of Chrysler.
Successor to the Dodge Neon and the Chrysler PT Cruiser, the Caliber was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show and lasted just a little over 6 years.
Built upon the GS Platform, the Caliber shares its underpinnings with a number of vehicles like the Dodge Journey, Dodge Avenger, Chrysler Sebring, Jeep Patriot, Jeep Compass, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, Mitsubishi Grand Lancer and the Mitsubishi Delica D:5.
Following testing undertaken by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Caliber received mixed reviews for its safety, with arguably poor scores coming in from the roof strength and side-impact crash tests.
There were four trim levels, the SE, SXT, R/T and the SRT4. The latter had a 2.4-liter 16V turbocharged engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission and had a number of premium features including 19-inch alloy wheels.
By 2012, the trim levels had been reduced to three, SE, SXT and the SXT Plus and despite the changes, sales continued to fall until in its final year the car only managed 10,892 units sold globally and so the decision was made to discontinue the model.
The most common fault codes with this vehicle can be:
- P0456 – A generic code, a small leak has been discovered in the evaporative system.
- P0700 – The transmission control module is malfunctioning.
- P0455 – A malfunction relating to an evaporative emissions control problem.
- P0420 – Poor efficiency from the catalyst system.
- P0480 – A problem with the cooling fan.
