Detailed Manufacturer-Specific Explanations

Acura – ECM/PCM INTERNAL CIRCUIT FAILURE

For both Acura and Honda, fault code P1607 is logged when the onboard computer has detected an internal circuit malfunction with the powertrain or engine control modules.

These are vital systems in modern cars, making an internal failure a very serious problem. Issues like this can result in the vehicle being inoperable or suffering hugely in terms of driveability.

Fixing this code typically requires checking the various connections of the ECM. It is important to check that there are no short or open circuits in the ECM wiring harness.

Audi – VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL ERROR MESSAGE FROM INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

For both Audi and Volkswagen, fault code P1607 is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected a malfunction

This is likely caused by a fault in the wiring harness between the vehicle speed sensor, which is typically found on the transmission, and the instrument cluster. It is also possible that there is a fault with the PCM itself.

This code does not have any similar generic fault codes as most manufacturers have not defined this as a fault. Thankfully, this is a fairly rare code even for Audi and Volkswagen vehicles.

Honda – ECM/PCM INTERNAL CIRCUIT FAILURE A

For both Acura and Honda, fault code P1607 represents the same problem. For more information on the problem and similar generic fault codes, please see the above description for Acura.

Hyundai – ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM)/ ELECTRONIC THROTTLE SYSTEM (ETS) – COMMUNICATION MALFUNCTION

For both Hyundai and Kia, fault code P1607 is logged when the onboard computers have detected a communication failure between the engine control module (ECM) and the electronic throttle system (ETS).

This is a serious issue that needs to be fixed immediately as it can prevent the vehicle from operating at all.

The cause of the problem will typically be an electrical issue found within the circuits for both the ECM and the ETS. Although this is a very serious code, it is thankfully fairly rare for both Hyundai and Kia.

Land Rover – MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP SHORT CIRCUIT FAULT

For Land Rover, fault code P1607 is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected a malfunction from the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) or Check Engine Light (CEL).

As the code indicates, the cause of this problem is typically a short circuit within the MIL circuit.

This can be caused by damaged wires and loose connections. A failed MIL bulb or LED can also cause this issue.

See generic codes: P0650

Opel/Vauxhall – CLUTCH ACTUATOR POSITION CONTROL

For Opel/Vauxhall, fault code P1607 is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an issue with the clutch actuator position system.

The clutch actuator is required for the vehicle to engage in the various gears. Because of this, this code will typically mean the vehicle will not start at all. Of course, this makes it a very serious problem that needs to be addressed immediately.

Thankfully, this code can only affect models with a manual transmission.
