About the Passat
A member of the large series of cars manufactured by the German car company Volkswagen, the Passat was marketed as a family car and has been sold under a number of different names worldwide.
Sales started decades ago in 1973 and rather than being referred to in terms of generations, VW issued code names like B4, B5.5 and B6 etc.
The latest version was released in 2015 and was available in the United Kingdom as a four-door saloon and estate.
Now built upon a lengthened version of the Volkswagen Group MQB Platform, the Passat shares this platform with the Audi A3, Audi Q2, Audi TT, SEAT Leon, Skoda Octavia, Skoda Superb, Volkswagen Arteon, Volkswagen Atlas, Volkswagen Golf Mk7, Volkswagen Lamando and the Volkswagen Touran. The Passat can display some of the following error codes:
P0299 – A fault code that suggests that there is a generic powertrain diagnostic issue found only in cars with either a turbobooster or supercharger. The most common symptom that makes this problem easily identifiable is the illumination of the check engine light. There could also be very little difference in acceleration, a unique intermittent sound or lack of engine power. There can be a number of reasons for this code, a malfunctioning boost pressure sensor, low oil or fuel pressure or a broken supercharger or turbocharger.
P0106 – This error code shows that the manifold air pressure has a performance problem. It is advised that a mechanic be consulted to determine the exact cause as it could be one of the following:
- The MAP sensor range voltage output is outside of the desired specification.
- Faulty or corroded wires
- Poor fuel pressure.
- The main cause, and the most common, could be the result of a problem with the air intake system vacuum hose being loosened. This could be cracked or missing its plastic fixtures.
