About the Colt
The moniker ‘Colt’ has been used and recycled by Mitsubishi Motors since 1962.
First seen on Kei cars, the Colt is now a mini multi-purpose vehicle that has been on sale since 2002.
Designed in Japan by Olivier Boulay (a car designer who has worked for a number of car manufacturers like Daimler-Benz and DaimlerChrysler), the Colt shares a platform with the Smart Forfour.
Available in a number of styles, the Colt is sold as a 3-door hatchback, 5-door hatchback, 5-door station wagon or a 2-door hardtop convertible.
The coupe cabriolet was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show and could seat 4 passengers offering an affordable convertible with a turbo engine.
These models were partly contrasted in Holland with the final assembly taking place in Turin, Italy.
Mitsubishi released an electric version of the Colt called the Colt MIEV, these cars had a separate motor fitted to each wheel and were capable of reaching 150 km/h.
With a range of 150 km on just one charge, the Colt MIEV could reach a near complete charge within ten minutes.
As the Colt sits in a crowded category, as expected, there are a number of alternatives available to potential buyers, these cars include Honda Fit, Skoda Fabia, Honda Civic, Toyota Yaris, Honda Jazz, Suzuki Swift and the Mazda 2.
There are several common fault codes associated with the Mitsubishi Colt, these can be:
- P0170 – An error code showing that the fuel trim is outside of the specified range set by the manufacturer.

- P0420 – Poor efficiency of the catalyst system, this can lead to problems with the cars exhaust or fuel system.
- P0110 – Pointing to a problem with the Intake Air Temperature, this sends an incorrect voltage signal to the engine control unit.
- P0702 – A general problem with the automatic transmission control, logged by the powertrain control module.
