About the Venga
Lasting just one decade, the Venga sold onwards from 2009 and was based upon Kia’s No3 concept car.
Designed by Peter Schreyer (a car designer responsible for numerous vehicles over his career such as the Kia Borrego, Kia Cadenza, Kia Carnival, Kia C’eed, Kia Forte, Kia K9, Kia Niro, Kia Picanto, Kia Sorento, Audi A3, Audi A4, Audi TT, Volkswagen Eos, Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen New Beetle, Hyundai Genesis, Hyundai i30 and the Hyundai Tucson.
For a small car, the Venga had a long wheelbase and high roofline to increase the internal space.
Using the Spanish word ‘Venga’ (meaning ‘to come’), the Venga had a number of notable features, including pre-tensioning seatbelts, active front headrests, six airbags, tire pressure monitoring, emergency braking resulting in automatically triggered hazard lights and hill start capability.
There were four engine types available, a 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter petrol, and the same size as the diesel counterparts.
Transmissions included a variety of 4, 5 or 6-speed manual or automatic, which could be mated to each of the engine options.
Following Euro NCAP testing, the Venga received four out of a potential five stars for safety with 79% received for adult safety and 66% for children.
