Kia Stinger Image
  • Manufacturer: Kia

About the Stinger

Although a relatively new car, designs for the Stinger started over a decade ago in 2011.

Created and manufactured by the South Korean company Kia, the Stinger was predominantly designed by Peter Schreyer, a man responsible for numerous vehicles like the 1996 Audi A3, 2000 Audi A4, 1997 Audi A6, 1998 Audi TT, 2003 Volkswagen Concept R, 2006 Volkswagen Eos, 2008 Kia Borrego, 2010 Kia Cadenza, 2015 Kia Carnival, 2014 Hyundai Genesis and the 2017 Hyundai i30.

Unveiling at the 2017 North American International Auto Show, the Stinger came with some impressive stats, capable of accelerating up to 100 km/h in as little as 4.9 seconds, the Stinger GT (a pre-production model) recorded its highest speed at 269 km/h.

Available with a choice of two engines, a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.3 liter twin-turbo V6.

Before its release, the Stringer had undergone an intensive 1,000 km test at the Korea International Circuit and a huge 10,000 km at the Nurburgring, Nordschleif.

2020 saw a facelift that detailed changed headlamps and taillights with an upgraded infotainment system and a retuned engine.

Following rigorous testing by Euro NCAP, the Stringer faired very well with a 93% score for adult safety, 81% for children and an overall five stars out of a potential five stars.

  • P0088 – Located in the fuel system, this code points to the fact there is too high fuel pressure.
  • P0068 – Either mass airflow sensors or the manifold absolute pressure have readings that do not line up with readings coming from the throttle position sensor.
  • P0049 – Caused by a number of issues, this code means that the supercharger boost control solenoid circuit is open.
  • P0107 – The MAP sensor has too little voltage input to the engine control unit.
  • P0172 – There might be too much gasoline found in the air-fuel mix in the engine.
