About the i30
Hyundai released the small family car originally in 2007. Since that time, there have been three generations to hit the market, with the latest version debuting in 2016.
It has also been sold as the Hyundai Elantra Touring and GT for the United States market.
The i30 has featured various layouts over the years, including both a 3-door and a 5-door hatchback, estate, and liftback.
Competition in the family hatchback class is extremely fierce, but Hyundai’s offering has managed to keep its own. Rivals consist of a number of other popular small hatchbacks like the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf, and Mazda 3.
Fortunately, the most commonly searched problem for this model is one with the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system – code P0404. These relatively new systems work in conjunction with the catalytic converter to reduce harmful emissions from the exhaust system.
It is certainly not the most serious code, but it can be a tricky one to even diagnose.
One of the most severe, as well as fairly common, issues for the i30 is P0340. This code represents an issue with the camshaft position (CMP) sensor circuit.
This is an extremely vital component in ensuring the engine is running both properly and safely. If the powertrain control module (PCM) is unsure of the position of any of the various engine shafts, it is a serious problem.
To keep your i30 healthy, never ignore this type of code as it can not only lead to poor performance but serious damage to the engine and costly repairs.
Another serious problem the model can suffer from is P0700, which is a problem with the transmission control system. As the name suggests, this system controls the automatic transmission.
Issues like this can result in problems like erratic shifting and even your car entering limp mode. This can be hugely problematic, making it very important to get the problem resolved immediately.
