About the i10
Sold onwards from 2007, the i10 is a small city car created by the South Korean company Hyundai.
Replacing the Hyundai Atos (a very different-looking vehicle with dated styling), the i10 offered up to 10 engine variants which all could be mated to manual or automatic transmissions.
First-generation models were produced in India at the Chennai plant and were available in a number of trims; the D-Lite, Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta.
For the European market, the trim levels carried different names, Classic, Style, Comfort and Eco Blue. All models benefit from electric sunroofs, start-stop systems, electric front windows, air conditioning and four airbags.
Second-generation examples debuted in 2013 with a much more modernized look. These new models were showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show and boasted larger dimensions, with 10% extra cargo space added to the boot and the length increased by 3.1 inches. Reviews were favorable, with some suggesting that the i10 was a real alternative to the VW Up!.
In addition to the Up!, other competitors included the Suzuki Ignis, Kia Picanto, Skoda Citigo-e Iv, Toyota Aygo, Seat Mii Electric, Fiat Panda and the Fiat 500.
The i10 can register some common faults:
- P0014 – Bank 1 of the exhaust camshaft is outside of the specified range.
- P0011 – The bank 1 intake camshaft is too advanced, and not reading at the correct level determined by the manufacturer.
- P0748 – This problem relates to the car’s pressure control solenoid and pressure readings.
- P0420 – A poor performance from the catalyst system.
- P0365 – Low voltage found in the camshaft position and read by sensor B.
