About the Veloster
Created as a hatchback coupe, the Veloster is a car sold globally by the South Korean car company Hyundai.
Its first models were sold in its native country in the spring of 2011, with Hyundai branching out to Canada and the United States later in the same year.
Unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show, the Veloster has a unique feature when compared to its rivals; the doors on either side of the vehicle are not symmetrical.
For the driver’s side, the Veloster has one large door, and for the passengers, two doors (overall, a more common configuration found on commercial vehicles and minivans).
All Veloster models came with Blue Link, a system that provides the driver with crash notifications, remote control of the features and ongoing vehicle diagnostics.
The first generation had a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, with three variations producing varying bhp, and all petrol. These engines could be coupled with an option of 6-speed automatic or manual transmissions with the addition of either a 6 or 7-speed alternative transmission.
Second-generation models launched in 2018 with changes made to the engine lineup, now available in a variety of sizes and aesthetically, it was quite a different car.
Keeping the three-door configuration, the new Veloster had a wealth of new safety features like emergency braking, lane keep assist and driver attention monitor.
For customers who weren’t so keen on the radical door design, there were a number of alternative options such as the Kia Soul, Ford Fiesta ST, Audi A1, Ford Focus, Hyundai i30, Audi A3, Ford Mondeo, Hyundai Ioniq and the BMW 1 Series.
Fault codes that can show for the Veloster are:
- P0420 – Poor efficiency performance from the catalyst system.
- P0011 – The bank 1 intake camshaft is outside of the determined range.
- P0299 – Found only on vehicles with a turbocharger or a supercharger, this code tells the operator that there is an issue with the underboost performance.
- P0441 – A problem with the EVAP, this code relates to the purge valve and its subsequent vapors.
- P0130 – This means that the engine control module cannot detect any oxygen in the exhaust system.
