About the Up!
Volkswagen produced the new Up! under a new project called the Volkswagen Group New Small Family, all of which were unveiled at the 2011 International Motor Show in Germany.
Available as either a 3-door or a 5-door hatchback, the VW Up! offered two 1-liter petrol engines and a Petrol/CNG engine and sold five models in the UK alone; the RTake Up, Move Up, High Up, Up Black and the Up White.
As a small city car, the Up! faces a lot of competition from other small vehicles like the Fiat 500, Fiat Panda, Seat Mii, Toyota Aygo, Skoda Citigo-e Iv, Kia Picanto and the Suzuki Ignis.
There are some error codes that show often for this vehicle:
- P0401 – Referred to as an insufficient EGR flow, this fault code signals that the engine control module has discovered that the exhaust gas recirculation valve is not working properly. By not allowing the correct levels of recirculated gasses into the engine, this problem can result in slower acceleration, an audible noise emanating from the engine or the illumination of the check engine light. There can be a number of causes for this error code, for example, a problematic EGR valve, carbon build-up inside the intake manifold or a defective EGR temperature sensor.
- P0140 – This shows that the O2 sensor for bank 1, sensor 2 is not responding properly to the engine control module. There are a handful of root causes, namely an issue inside the O2 circuit or the mass airflow sensor is misread by the engine control module. Whenever this problem arises, it will illuminate the check engine light and drivers will notice an interruption to the smooth running of the engine. Replacing the O2 sensor will usually correct the problem and so can cleaning the mass airflow sensor.
