About the X-Trail

The X-Trail is a compact crossover SUV created by the Japanese automaker Nissan.

First models rolled off the production line in 2000 after being unveiled at the PARIS Motor Show.

Originally built upon the Nissan MS/M&S/FF-S Platform (shared with the Nissan Primera, Nissan Almera, Bluebird Sylphy G10, Sunny, Wingroad and the Serena), the X-Trail’s first generation was four-wheel drive with the option to switch to two wheels drive.

For the UK markets, the customer could select from three trim levels, the S, Sport and SE+, these were later changed to SE, Sport, SVE and T-Spec with a Fat Face special edition added.

2007 saw the second generation, these were far less boxy, slightly larger and built upon a new platform, the Renault-Nissan C Platform.

Japanese customers could purchase either a 2.5-liter petrol or a 2-liter petrol engine with just two trim levels.

By 2013, the platform had changed yet again, this time to the popularly used CMF-CD Platform, here it begins to look more like other cars in the Nissan lineup, like the Juke and the Qashqai.

Currently, in its fourth generation, the X-Trail now offers an electric hybrid version with an improved smooth and quiet ride, whilst the diesel powertrains are fully removed.

  • P0335 – Upon seeing this code, the driver is advised to consult a mechanic immediately as it could be caused by a number of reasons. Altering to there being an issue with the position sensor of the crankshaft.
  • P0420 – Showing a low catalyst system efficiency, this could be because the oxygen levels are too low. Tricky to diagnose, it could mean there is an issue with the cars exhaust or fuel systems.
  • P0235 – The boost pressure sensor is malfunctioning and is signaled by the engine control module.
  • P0340 – This error code could signal that either the camshaft position sensor wires, or the sensor itself if broken.
  • P0120 – This is a diagnostic error code, it means that abnormal voltage readings are coming from the TP or APP sensors. This fault surrounds the throttle position sensor.
  • P0350 – You may have some damage to the coil pack on the engine in your X-Trail or the circuits that surround them with this fault code.
  • U1002 – U1002 is a fault code that is thrown up if the ECU is unable to communicate properly with the ABS unit. It can be potentially dangerous as this involves the braking system.
  • P2263 – Finding this error code appears on your OBD2 reader would suggest that there is an issue with the turbocharger unit. If the ECU notices a lack of performance in that component then it triggers the P2263 warning.
  • P1525 – A common occurrence in Nissan models such as this, the P1525 error is triggered by a wrong reading coming from the camshaft. This could be caused by a variety of different issues around the engine but you should do a quick check for split hoses under the bonnet of your X-Trail first.
