About the Sonet
The Sonet is a subcompact crossover SUV created by Kia selling onwards from 2020.
Predominantly designed for the Indian market, the Sonet was the brainchild of Karib Habib, a graduate of McGill University.
Karim Habib has worked for numerous car manufacturers like BMW and Mercedes-Benz and currently holds the position of Senior Vice President and head of design at the Kia Design Centre.
Cars that Habib has designed are Kia K8, Kia Carens, Kia EV6, Kia Carnival, Kia Optima, Kia Sorento, Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept, BMW 5 Series, BMW X3, BMW X6, BMW 7 Series, BMW CS Concept and the Mercedes-Benz F800.
Using high-strength steel, the Sonet is robust and so helps to reduce the severity of potential impacts and comes with a multitude of features like electronic traction control, speed altering system, hill start assistance, braking assistance and seat belt pre-tensioners.
In a bid to appeal to a wider market, a third row of seating was installed and shown first in Indonesia.
There were just four engine sizes available, a 1-liter, 1.2-liter and 1.5-liter petrol with just one 1.5-liter diesel variant.
The transmission options actually outnumber the selection of engines, with an offer of 5, 6 or 7-speed transmission types.
Although the car was released fairly recently, sales have been strong in India, with the second year more than doubling its first. Some error codes for the Sonet can be:
- P0106 – This shows that the output range is wrong in relation to the MAP circuit.
- P0301 – An error code relating to the misfire of the cylinder, this issue can be caused by a number of reasons and it’s suggested that a mechanic should be consulted.
- P0130 – Meaning no activity from the oxygen sensor, this code is picked up by the engine control module.
- P0024 – The exhaust camshaft is sitting in a more advanced position than is deemed acceptable.
- P0134 – An issue with the oxygen sensor, this code points to the engine bank that houses the related cylinder.
