Hyundai Santa Fe Image

About the Santa Fe

A sport utility vehicle created by the South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai, the Santa Fe was launched in 2000 as the automaker’s very first SUV.

Placed between the Tucson and the Veracruz in terms of size, this Santa Fe is currently in its fourth generation.

First generations had restricted choice for engines and transmissions with either a 2.4-liter or a 2.7-liter V6.

Built in a number of assembly plants globally, including the Ulsan plant in South Korea, the Hawtai factory in China, and others in Russia and Egypt, the Santa Fe cycled through a few facelifts before the second generation debuted in 2005.

Showcased at the North American International Auto Show, the Santa Fe looked less unconventional than its predecessor and now had three trim levels, the GLS, SE and Limited.

New safety features were installed, with the inclusion of side curtain airbags, electric stability control, active front head restraints, tire pressure monitors and anti-lock breaks.

Windshield wipers held a heated grid which allowed for the easy thawing of ice build-up.

Third generations were completely restyled, now much sleeker, the new models offered the ability to seat either 5 or 7 passengers.

Only available in one trim level for North America, customers could choose between just two engine variants, either 2.4-liter petrol or a 2-liter turbocharged engine.

If you are trying to diagnose a problem with your Santa Fe then it may be one of the following fault codes:

  • P0455 – There is a problem with the evaporative emissions control system.
  • P0420 – Showing a poor efficiency of the catalyst system.
  • P0014 – A generic code, showing that the bank 1 exhaust camshaft is more advanced than it should be.
  • P0441 – Showing a malfunction in the EVAP, the purge valve I not regulating properly.
  • P0018 – An uncorrelation between the camshaft position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor.
