About the Ioniq 5

The Ioniq 5 is a battery-electric compact crossover sports utility vehicle sold by the South Korean company Hyundai.

First shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2019, the Ioniq 5 shares a platform with the Ioniq 6, Kia EV6, Genesis GV60, Kia EV4, Kia EV9 and the Hyundai Ioniq 7.

Having won numerous awards, the Ioniq 5 can be purchased with different battery capacities, either 58kWh or 7.2 kWh; both of which can be charged in under 5 minutes. The following codes are representative of some of the issues that the Ioniq 5 can experience:

P0159 – This trouble code points to the fact that a specific sensor located in the exhaust system is functioning poorly. Usually, replacing the oxygen sensor fixes the problem, but should the code continue to show after this has been replaced then one should look for exhaust leaks or damaged wiring. After repairs have been made, the system can be tested in a number of days from driving consistently between 20 and 55 mph to operating a temperature above 70 degrees centigrade.

P0506 – Stored by the powertrain control module, this code signifies that the revolutions per minute of the idle control system is outside of the intended range. Most modern vehicles are fitted with an electronic throttle, and this in turn I controlled by sensors linked to the PCM. There are a number of reasons this code can be displayed, vacuum leaks, faulty idle air control motor or a blocked air intake in the exhaust system. This issue can prove dangerous as it ultimately can lead to a loss of power whilst driving and so it is recommended that drivers experiencing this problem consult a mechanic as soon as possible.

P0507 – When running a car’s engine without motion, the engine control module has to keep a consistent RPM range, this fault code indicates that the system is not performing properly and is producing an excessively high RPM.
