About the Sonic
The Sonic is a subcompact car built by Chevrolet since the year of 2002.
Sold in over 120 countries, this was a very popular little car based on the newer T200 platform and directly succeeded the Daewoo Lanos.
It was first unveiled at the Paris Motor show in 2000 and a little later customers could purchase this vehicle in three different variations; a four-door sedan, five-door hatchback and a three door hatchback.
After a fully revised facelift, the second generation started to hit the dealerships in 2012, a full 12 years after its initial release. These new models looked extremely different, with more modern styling, perhaps a result of switching platforms to the Gamma II global subcompact platform. Other cars to share this platform were the Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Sail, Chevrolet Cobalt, Opel Mokka, Buick Encore, Chevrolet Spin, Chevrolet Onix, Chevrolet Prisma MK II, Chevrolet Trax, Opel Karl and the VinFast Fadil.
Different countries dictated the style and model variation for the intended demographics, for example, for North America saw a four-door sedan or a five-door hatchback.
Some fault codes for this car are:
- P0171 – Either not enough fuel, or too much oxygen found in the exhaust. There could be a vacuum leak or the first bank of the engine is weak.
- P00B7 – Indicating poor performance from the engine coolant flow. Registered with the powertrain control module, it could mean that there is not enough coolant flow through to the cooling system itself.
- P0106 – An output range or performance problem found via the manifold air pressure sensor.
- P0599 – If this code shows, it is recommended the driver visit a mechanic immediately for a precise diagnosis, essentially it reads that the thermostat heater control circuit is high.
- P0496 – Unusual operation coming from the vehicle’s intake vacuum flow.
