About the Vectra
A mid-size family car, the Vectra sold for twenty years and proved a very successful vehicle for the German automaker, Opel.
First generations launched in 1988 as a four-door notchback saloon, a five-door hatchback and a coupe.
There were a number of trims available, the Base, LS, GL, GLS, CD and GT and engine sizes ranged from 1.4-liter to 2.5-liter in petrol and two 1.7-liter diesels.
Featuring a front suspension with MacPherson struts and an anti-roll bar, the Vectra enjoyed an update in 1992 which saw in an upgraded structure to improve performance in collisions.
In 1995, the Vectra B rolled off the production line and was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Now including an estate version in its lineup, Vauxhall expanded the engine offerings even further and was the last Vauxhall to be produced at the Luton plant.
Sporting special editions Super Touring and GSi were released following the new releases and reviews of the standard models were scathing, with Top Gear placing the Vectra on its list of the 13 Worst Cars of the Last 20 Years.
Keen to shed this reputation, Vauxhall changed the platform to the new GM Epsilon platform, shared with the likes of Holden Vectra, Chevrolet Vectra, Saab 9-3, Saab 9-5, Chevrolet Malibu and the Cadillac BLS.
Some error codes common in this vehicle are:
- P0100 – A mass airflow circuit issue.
- P0400 – A generic code, P0400 indicates an issue with the engine exhaust gas recirculation valve.
- P0170 – The fuel trim is outside of the usual range.
- P0340 – The camshaft position sensor is showing an issue.
- P0380 – This code can be problematic because it doesn’t light a warning on the dashboard, P0380 means there is an issue with the glow plug.
