About the Armada
The Armada is a full-sized sports utility vehicle manufactured form 2003 by the Japanese car company Nissan.
First generations unveiled at the New York Auto Show, were fitted with a 5.6-liter V8 engine and had a 5-speed automatic transmission with a choice of either four-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive.
Initially released as the Nissan Pathfinder Armada, by the 2008 update, the ‘Pathfinder’ moniker had been dropped and a new Platinum edition had been added to the lineup.
These top-level trims came with a hard drive specifically designed to store music, a memory card reader, a power liftgate and a third row of seating that could be lowered electronically to allow for additional cargo space.
2017 saw the addition of the second generation, this time showcased at the Chicago Auto Show and took design cues from the Nissan Patrol.
Despite the overall size of the vehicle increasing, the wheelbase had shrunk slightly and offered SV, SL and Platinum trim levels.
Again, only one engine was available, a 5.6 liter 7-speed automatic transmission and following a 2021 refresh, new features were added to include Apple Car Play, wireless smartphone charging, a wider infotainment system and Nissans safety system, the ‘Safety Shield 360.’
For customers wishing to consider alternatives, the Armada did have some competition, notably from cars like the Chevrolet Suburban, Ford Expedition, Honda Pilot, GMC Yukon, Infiniti QX80, Lexus LX 570, Lincoln Navigator, Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota Sequoia, Chevrolet Tahoe and the Honda Pilot Touring.
Issues can occur with the Armada resulting in some of the following codes:
- P0420 – Poor efficiency relating to the catalyst system.
- P0455 – A malfunction emanating from a gross leak, this is found by the engine computer.
- P0442 – This fault code points to a small leak in the evaporative emissions system.
- P0138 – A generic code, this signals a low voltage output and ultimately results in a lack of oxygen in the exhaust system.
- P0430 – A poorly functioning catalytic converter.
