About the Sedona
The Kia Sedona, more prominently known as the Kia Carnival, first made its debut in 1999. In 2021, the Sedona name came to an end. While the nameplate was discontinued, the model lives on under the Carnival name.
Competition for the model comes from the likes of the Honda Odyssey, Chrysler Pacifica, and Toyota Sienna.
During its time on the market, a total of four generations were released. The latest of these came in 2020. Interestingly, the second generation was also sold in North America under the Hyundai Entourage nameplate.
One of the most common fault codes for the model is one that actually only affects models with petrol engines. This is because code P0024 indicates that the exhaust camshaft of the second bank of the engine is not performing correctly.
A faulty oil control valve is reportedly one of the most common causes of this code. In some cases, an old oil filter also adds to this issue. It is best to replace the oil filter with a Kia filter.
Adding to this issue, fault code P0018 also indicates that there is an issue with the signals from the crankshaft and the intake camshaft of the second bank. Again, this means that only petrol variants can be susceptible to this issue.
It is possible that when logged on their own that these codes can be mistakes. However, if they are logged together it is a clear indication that there is a serious timing issue with the second bank of the engine. This can mean the timing belt or chain should be checked.
Another fairly common problem is shown by P0320. This can be a fairly difficult code to fix. However, owners have reported that a faulty ignition failure sensor is the usual culprit.
