About the Sonata
A mid-sized vehicle created by the South Korean company Hyundai since the mid-1980s, the Sonata was essentially an ungraded version of its predecessor, the Stellar.
Engine modifications were made and after just two years of its first generation, the Sonata was removed from the market following a poor reception.
Second generations were developed to sell in America after the success of the Excel, and was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, a designer responsible for cars like the Ferrari 250 GT SWB, the BMW 3200 CS, Iso Rivolta IR 300, Aston Martin DB4 GT, the ASA 1000 GT and the Simca 1000 Coupe.
The Sonata spanned several decades and its eighth generation debuted in the year of 2019.
Showcased at the Shanghai Auto Show, the new Sonatas were much lower to the ground and has a number of modern features like forward-collision braking, lane assist, adaptive cruise control and five cameras.
There are several common faults associated with the Sonata, namely:
- P0014 – Exhaust Camshaft timing issue, advice is to stop operating the vehicle immediately and repair it immediately.
- P0011 – A generic code highlighting the fact that the engine control module is telling the driver that the bank intake camshaft is over-advanced and not running at factory settings.
- P0455 – Several fixes could solve this fault, one should try replacing the gas cap, replacing the fuel filter neck or reattaching loose hoses
- P0106 – Usually means a problem with the MAP circuit outputting an incorrect level resulting in a problem with performance.
- P0010 – Showing if the EMC attempts to change the intake camshaft timing.
