Audi – ENGINE MOUNT SOLENOID VALVES SHORT TO GROUND
For both Audi and Volkswagen, fault code P1587 is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected that there is a short to ground in the engine mount solenoid circuit.
The engine mount solenoid is a part of the active engine mount system used to dampen the vibrations that travel from the engine throughout the vehicle. A code like this will typically cause noticeable vibrations from the engine.
Of course, not every Audi or VW has an active engine mount system, so it is important to ensure that the vehicle in question is capable of having this fault code logged.
In most cases, the short to ground needs to be repaired. However, it is also possible that this code will mean that the engine mount needs to be replaced.

Citroën – THROTTLE CONTROL UNIT MODULATED COMMAND MALFUNCTION
For a number of manufacturers, fault code P1587 represents the same issue. For these brands, this code is logged when a malfunction from the throttle control unit has been detected.
The throttle actuator control module is what this code is pointing to in terms of the fault. This component is responsible for controlling the opening and closing of the throttle.
This code is typically the result of an electrical issue with the control unit. It is likely that there is a damaged or loose connection in its circuit, as well as potentially damaged or frayed wires that can cause an open or short circuit condition.
It is also possible that this fault code means that the throttle control unit itself is defective and needs to be replaced.

GMC – CRUISE CONTROL CLUTCH CIRCUIT LOW
For GM brands like Chevrolet, GMC, Jeep and others, fault code P1587 is logged when a low voltage is detected from the cruise control clutch circuit.
Cruise control is a modern system that allows the vehicle to remain at a certain speed without the driver depressing the accelerator pedal. The cruise control clutch system is used to disengage the system when the clutch pedal is pressed in a car with a manual transmission.
In most cases, this code will be caused by wiring issues in the circuit. This can include damaged wires and loose connections.
This code can only be logged by a car with a manual transmission.
