About the Superb
A mid to large-sized family car, the Superb was created and manufactured by the Czech company Skoda.
The original car to carry the name was sold between the years 1934 and 1949, and the later models were launched in 2001.
First models were built upon the VW B5 PL45+ Platform, a platform shared with other cars like the Audi A4, Audi S4, Audi RS4 Avant and the Volkswagen Passat.
After just one year, the Superb was discontinued for the European market with sales in China proving good.
There were a number of petrol and diesel engines available to include a 1.9-liter four-cylinder turbocharged turbodiesel and a 2-liter petrol capable of producing 114 bhp.
2006 saw a facelift with changes made to the front grille and headlights.
A second generation started taking orders in 2008 and the platform was changed to the B6 A6/PQ46, the underpinnings of which were shared with the Audi A4 and the Audi S4. The former rounded edges were now crisp lines with a much more solid aesthetic and a slightly slanted front grille.
There were a number of trim levels available the Comfort, Ambition, Elegance, Greenline, Exclusive and Laurin & Klement; the latter was the premium end and had features like a color touch screen, automatic park assist system, rain sensor and sunroof with solar panels.
Some problems with the Superb can show up as these fault codes:
- P0016 – A generic code, this means that there is a problem surrounding the camshaft position sensor.
- P0671 – An unexpected voltage reading was found by the engine control module.
- P0403 – An issue with the exhaust gas recirculation circuit, this is picked up by the ECM.
- P0196 – This code signifies a complicated problem and will require a mechanic to properly diagnose the problem, but the issue surrounds the engine oil temperature.
- P0441 – An unacceptable purge flow (found only on vehicles with a leak detection pump).
