About the Grand Caravan

The Dodge Grand Caravan series of minivans first made its debut in 1984. Since then, there have been five generations to hit the markets.

It is essentially the long-wheelbase version of the Dodge Caravan. The original Caravan model was discontinued in 2020, but Chrysler decided to carry the Grand Caravan name for the Canadian version of the Chrysler Pacifica.

Sitting in the North American minivan class, the Grand Caravan faces competition from the likes of the Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, and its corporate cousin, the Chrysler Pacifica.

One of the most commonly reported problems that the Grand Caravan has suffered from is fault code P0480. This code indicates that there is a cooling fan malfunction. This is typically the low-speed fan.

Owners have reported that this code can be fairly difficult to pinpoint its cause. The most typical problem is an electrical fault within the cooling fan relay circuit. It is also possible that the cooling fan relay itself needs to be replaced.

Another issue that Grand Caravan owners have faced is P0171. This code is logged when the first bank of the engine is running lean.

One of the most common solutions for this issue is cleaning or replacing a fouled MAF and/or sensors. Owners have also reported that replacing a defective fuel pump can also help with this issue.

When it comes to older models, fault code P0420 becomes quite a common issue. This code indicates that the catalytic converter in the first bank of the engine is likely failing.

This issue can typically be the result of the catalytic converter simply reaching its lifespan. Replacing it is one of the best courses of action for this problem.
