About the RDX

The RDX is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by Acura, a premier division of Honda.

Original models shared a platform with the Honda Civic and the CR-V, after which they migrated it to its own platform.

First generations were sold onwards from 2007, and were a production version of the concept car, the Acura RD-X Concept car. Early versions had a 2.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine capable of producing 240 bhp, an engine uncommonly found in Honda vehicles.

Internally, RDX’s were advanced with a number of premium features as one would suspect.

All cars had standard leather seating with automatic climate control, 7 speaker audio system and a moonroof. Most cars had the ‘Technology package’ which included a brand-specific satellite navigation, traffic monitoring and backup cameras; there was even an iPod adapter located in the glove box. Along with the internal features, the safety package too was good, with a system in place designed to absorb energy from impact, there were 6 airbags and seat belt pre-tensioners.

As a premium luxury vehicle, the RDX had strong competition from cars like the Audi Q5, BMW X4, Lexus RX, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Volvo XC60, Infiniti QX50, Lincoln MKC and the Cadillac XT5.

Some codes with this vehicle are:

  • P0171 – Either not enough fuel in the exhaust, or, too much air. Drivers are advised to check for a vacuum leak near the side of the engine with the first bank.
  • P0848 – The PCM has found an issue with the transmission fluid sensor circuit.
  • P0430 – Showing an underperformance from the catalytic converter which is picked up by the ECU. Following this error, the check engine light will illuminate.
  • P0325 – When the driver sees this code, it will probably have been prompted upon seeing the check engine light. Showing a malfunction inside the knock sensor, it will be recorded by the ECU.
  • P0741 – A diagnostic issue relating to the torque converter clutch circuit performance.
