About the Nitro
The Dodge Nitro first made its debut in 2007. The model represented Dodge’s first and only compact SUV model at the time.
During the five-year period of production, there was only one generation to hit the market until was later succeeded by the release of the Dodge Journey. This happened when the Nitro was discontinued in 2012.
The model has faced competition from a number of similarly priced Jeep models. The most prominent of these was the Jeep Liberty. These two models also shared a number of similarities like mechanical components, such as the platform. Another rivalry came from the Ford Escape.
Fault code P0481 is one of the most common fault codes that the model suffered from. This code indicates that there is an issue in the cooling fan 2 circuit.
This problem has commonly been caused by a faulty cooling fan relay. However, there may be other electrical issues in the circuit causing the issue, like a faulty cooling fan.
The Nitro has also faced P0038 fairly commonly. This code is logged when a high voltage has been detected from the second heated oxygen sensor heater circuit in the first bank of the exhaust.
In most cases, this code is caused by an electrical issue in the circuit or a faulty heated oxygen sensor.
Another code that is reported fairly often from owners is P0455. This code indicates that there is a significant leak in the evaporative emissions control (EVAP) system.
Some owners have found that this is the result of a loose or faulty gas cap. However, a failing component anywhere in the system can lead to this issue.
