Jaguar – FUEL TANK PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE MALFUNCTION
For both Ford and Jaguar, fault code P1453 is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected that the fuel tank pressure relief valve is malfunctioning.
The fuel pressure relief valve is a safety and emission control system that is responsible for releasing unwanted pressure from the fuel tank.
When a certain pressure is reached, the valve is supposed to open, regulating the pressure within.
One of the most common causes of this issue is a faulty pressure relief valve. There may be electrical issues present as well. These

Audi – EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE
For Audi, fault code P1453 is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an issue with the exhaust gas temperature sensor.
The description for Volkswagen gives more information on this problem. It explains that the issue detected is an open or short circuit for the exhaust gas temperature sensor 1.
Exhaust gas temperature sensors are responsible for monitoring the temperature of the exhaust gases and relaying this information back to the PCM. The control module can then make adjustments to the to air-fuel mixture or the amount of boost from a turbocharger.
For petrol engines, this is done to protect components downstream of the engine from excessively high temperatures.
For diesel vehicles, it is done to carefully monitor the temperature of exhaust gases entering the diesel particulate filter (DPF) to regulate the regeneration process.
This code will typically be the result of a faulty sensor, damaged wires, or loose connections. Special attention must be given to the circuit for the B+ terminal.

BMW – SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT ELECTRICAL
For BMW, fault code P1453 is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an issue with the secondary air injection pump relay control circuit.
The secondary air injection system (SAIS) is used to pump ambient air into the vehicle’s exhaust system. This reduces the amount of unburned fuel that leaves the vehicle, particularly during cold start scenarios.
These systems were introduced in the ‘60s to reduce emissions from the vehicle due to the fact that catalytic converters only reach operational temperatures after running the engine for some time.
These systems are typically only used in vehicles with petrol engines, meaning diesel vehicle owners will not have to worry about this fault code for their BMWs.
This issue indicates that there is a problem within the pump relay control circuit. This means there is likely a short or open circuit as a result of a damaged wire or loose connection within the circuit.
