About the ATS
The Alpha Touring Sedan, also called the ATS, first made its debut in 2012. It remained on the market as a single generation until its discontinuation in 2019. It was replaced without a successor as a result of poor sales.
Cadillac has offered the model in a number of variations, namely the long-wheelbase ATS-L and the high-performance ATS-V.
Competition for the luxury sedan came mainly from the Ford Mustang, BMW 4 Series, and Mercedes C-Class. The high-performance version also competed directly with the performance versions of these models.
Unfortunately, all of the most common fault codes for the model are very serious ones.
One of the most common issues that the ATS faced during its years on the market was P0700. This code indicates a malfunction with the transmission control system. Of course, this only affected models fitted with an automatic transmission.
Owners have often found this to be a frustrating code to pinpoint the cause of. It is a good idea to look for any other codes relating to the transmission to help find the source of the issue.
Fault code P0300 indicates that there have been multiple random misfires detected from the ATS engine.
One of the first steps ATS owners should do is to try a higher quality gasoline as this can cause misfires. It is also a good idea to check the ignition coil packs and spark plugs and replace if necessary.
Another common problem is P0299, which indicates that the turbocharger is not providing sufficient boost. Of course, this means that only models like the ATS-V can have this code because they have turbochargers.
Owners have reported a likely cause is a leak in the forced induction system, which can be caused by split hoses. This is a fairly common issue for the model.
