About the Alhambra

The popular Alhambra was a minivan capable of seating 7 passengers which sold between the years 1996 and 2020.

Created by the Spanish car manufacturer Seat, the Alhambra was created alongside a number of other similar vehicles like the VW Sharan and the Ford Galaxy.

First generations were showcased at the Geneva Salon International de l’Auto and the design was received well; with the ability to remove the rear five seats (two rows) to allow for large cargo space these vehicles were highly flexible and so could suit a number of family requirements.

Many engine variations were available with three petrol engines and six diesels, all of which could be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a five-speed automatic.

2012 saw the second generation with a new sliding door to allow for easier access to the rear seats and the addition of a four-wheel drive variant.

Safety scores were good, after Euro NCAP testing, the Alhambra scored an impressive 96% for adult safety and 80% for children.

As an iconic minivan, the Alhambra won a myriad of awards including Best MPV, Best Imported MPV and MPV of the year, all across 2011 alone.

In later years, the Alhambra began to see strong competition (and not all from minivans), alternatives to the Alhambra included the Dacia Jogger, VW Touran, Ford S-Max, Ford Galaxy, Citroen Grand CS Space tourer, Mercedes-Benz GLB, BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer, Mercedes EQV and the Ford Tourneo Custom.

Some usual error codes with this vehicle are:

  • P0299 – Found exclusively in cars fitted with a supercharge or a turbocharge, this code points to a powertrain diagnostic.
  • P0403 – The gas exhaust recirculation system has found an error.
  • P0401 – Poor EGR flow.
  • P0016 – The relationship between the camshaft and the crankshaft is incorrect.
  • P0087 – System pressure too low from the fuel rail.
