About the A1
Sold from 2010 onwards, the A1 is a small car created by the German car company Audi AG.
Advertised as a supermini, the A1 was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show as a three-door model, and was later revised to add a five-door sport back version.
First generations carried the industry code ‘8X’ and were marketed to a younger generation with disposable money.
Using the MacPhearson strut (a system designed by Earle S. MacPhearson as early as 1945), the A1 had three trim levels available, the SE, Sport and the S Line. The latter being the top-grade model, these came with sport seating and larger wheels with a start-stop system (as found in cars like the Jaguar XF and the Fiat 500) and a good number of safety features like seatbelt pre-tensioners and numerous airbags.
After Euro NCAP safety tests were conducted, the Audi A1 received a health 90% score for adult safety and an overall five stars.
As a popular category of cars, predictably, the Audi A1 has some serious competition with potential buyers able to compare it against vehicles like the Ford Fiesta, Mini Hatchback, Citroen DS3, VW Polo, Alfa Romeo MiTo, Fiat 500, Skoda Fabia, BMW 1 Series, SEAT Ibiza or the Honda Jazz.
