P1320 Fault Code

Audi – KNOCK SENSOR 2 CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND

For both Audi and Volkswagen, fault code P1320 is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an issue with the second knock sensor circuit.

The knock sensors found in an engine are responsible for monitoring the engine to detect any knocks.

Knocking is caused by improper and uneven combustion in the various cylinders. This can typically be heard as a knocking or pinging sound. It can become a very serious issue, which is why it is important to ensure the knock sensors are working properly.

This fault code indicates that there is a short to ground in the knock sensor circuit. This can be caused by electrical issues like damaged wires, loose connections, and very often, a faulty knock sensor.

Infiniti – IGNITION SIGNAL, PRIMARY

For both Nissan and Infiniti, fault code P1320 is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an issue with the primary ignition circuit.

This happens when the signal from the ignition relay is malfunctioning, causing the ignition circuit to become inoperable.

The ignition circuit is responsible for providing heat and spark to the combustion chambers, allowing for the air-fuel mixture to ignite. Problems with the ignition circuit can cause misfires, as well as a number of other performance issues.

Because this fault code indicates there is a problem with the primary circuit, it is likely there is an electrical fault present. This can be caused by faulty igniters and damaged wires or loose connections within the circuit.

Lexus – IGNITER CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (NO. 5)

For both Toyota and Lexus, P1320 is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an issue with the igniter circuit for cylinder 5 of the engine.

The igniter circuit is simply the circuit responsible for controlling the ignition coils for a petrol engine. This is done to provide the heat required to cause combustion.

A malfunction detected with this circuit can result in misfires from cylinder 5. It will also likely cause decreased performance when running. The cause of this issue will likely be found within the circuit itself.

These can include electrical problems like damaged wiring or loose connections. It is also possible that the ignition components are faulty and need replacing.
