Jaguar – PEDAL POSITION SENSOR C INTERMITTENT
For both Ford and Jaguar, fault code P1217 is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an issue with the pedal position sensor C.
This happens when the signal from the position sensor is intermittent.
The position sensor is responsible for relaying information to the PCM in terms of how far the accelerator pedal is depressed. An intermittent signal from this sensor means the PCM will be able to determine the driver input on the throttle pedal.
This problem can cause serious driveability issues. It is also possible that the vehicle will enter limp mode until the issue is resolved.
This can make it very important to have this issue resolved quickly to resume the normal performance of the vehicle.

Audi – CYLINDER 5 – FUEL INJECTION CIRCUIT
For both Audi and Volkswagen, fault code P1217 is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an issue with the fuel injector circuit for cylinder 5.
The Volkswagen description for this code indicates that there is a short circuit to the positive terminal for the cylinder 5 fuel injector.
This circuit is responsible for controlling the fuel injector. A fault like this can cause the injector to perform erratically or not at all. This will result in misfires from the cylinder and other performance issues that hamper the driveability of the vehicle.
The short circuit will typically be caused by a failed fuel injector, loose or corroded connections, or damaged wiring.

Infiniti – ENGINE OVER TEMPERATURE (OVERHEAT)
For both Infiniti and Nissan, fault code P1217 is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected that the engine is overheating.
It is also possible that this code indicates that the engine has overheated recently.
Overheating is a very serious issue that can cause massive damage to the engine. The cause of overheating can vary widely. These issues will typically be found within the cooling system of the engine.
There are numerous sensors throughout the engine that allow the PCM to monitor the temperature to prevent overheating.
Be sure to look out for additional fault codes that can pinpoint the cause of this issue. These can be codes like P0115. P0480
Due to the seriousness of this problem, it is strongly recommended to have this issue be fixed immediately to resume the safe operation of the vehicle.
