About the Corolla Cross
Built by the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota, the Corolla Cross is deemed a compact crossover sports utility vehicle and in terms of size fits in just under the C-HR.
Built upon the TNGA-C Platform, it shares its underpinnings with the Corolla, Allion, Auris, Levin, GR Corolla, Suzuki Swace, Toyota Frontlander, IZOA, Noah, Voxy, Suzuki Landy, Toyota Prius and the Lexus UX.
Launched in Thailand in July 2020, it twinned with the Toyota Frontalnder and offered either a front-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive configuration.
Currently, there are three main powertrains available, petrol, petrol flex-fuel and a petrol hybrid all of which can be paired with a seven-speed transmission.
Using the classic MacPherson strut suspension and a torsion beam rear suspension instead of the independent rear suspension, the Corolla Cross allows for a 487-liter boot space which comes equipped with a puncture repair kit and a thin, temporary spare tire.
The Corolla Cross has been successful in several markets worldwide; Japan is to be expected, but it also sells in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei, Myanmar, Taiwan and Malaysia. The latter saw the new Corolla Cross unveil on 25th March 2021 as either a 1.8-liter G and a 1.8-liter V engines.
Other markets included Europe, the Americas and Africa where the Corolla Cross varies in style and engine sizes depending upon the native requirements.
Having won a number of awards, the Corolla Cross enjoyed the prestigious Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s ‘Top Safety Pick’ in 2021. Throughout the scores, the vehicle ranks top marks of ‘Good’ for all categories like side impact, roof strength and heat restraints and seat with the only exception being found in Headlights (all trims except XLE trim which has adaptive front lighting system), where it is rated ‘Acceptable.
