About the Prado
Dating back to 1984 (although at the time under a different moniker), the Land Cruiser Prado has been an incredibly successful vehicle that has undergone a number of changes.
Classed as a full-sized SUV, the Land Cruiser Prado can be purchased as either a three-door or a five-door and has had a number of different names depending upon the type of platform it used at the time; the LC150, LC120, LC70 and the LC90.
Replacing the J70 Land Cruiser in the USA, the first production generation launched in 1990 on a short wheelbase with four engine variants, three petrols and three diesels.
These models lasted just six years before the vehicle was redesigned and became more rounded with a longer body.
Toyota created a premium version, called the Challenger which had leather seats as standard and an entirely wood-paneled dashboard.
Fog lamps were added to the light cluster and vehicles of this time were capable of seating up to 8 passengers.
The UK saw the Land Cruiser Parado for the first time in 1996, although for Great Britain, Toyota changed the name to the Land Cruiser Colorado (and subsequently replaced the 4Runner).
Third generations had a better suspension system for improved off-roading and after releasing the new car in 2002, the Land Cruiser Prado now offered more engine options.
Six trim levels were available, from basic to high end, these levels were named the RX, RZ, TX, TX Limited, TZ and the TZ ‘G Selection.’ The latter had front heated seats, adjustable air suspension, heated mirrors and hill start assist control and downhill assist control.
