About the Tacoma
The Tacoma is a pickup truck designed and created by the Japanese automaker Toyota.
Throughout its life, the Tacoma has been built as both a compact pickup and a mid-size pickup truck and currently offers two engine variants; a 2.7 liter and a 3.5 liter V6.
With a curb weight ranging between 4,425 to 4,480 lbs, Toyota gave the Tacoma an update in 2020 which they released with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa.
Following safety tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Tacoma scored well with ‘Good’ awarded to roof strength, head restraints and front crash prevention.
As a mid-sized pickup, the Tacoma shares its category with vehicles like the Ford Ranger, Jeep Gladiator, the GMC Canyon, Honda Ridgeline and the Chevrolet Colorado.
The Tacoma can show some common fault codes, such as:
- P0420 – Showing a poor catalyst performance, this code shows that the oxygen levels are too low and there should be a number of things to check for such as a damaged exhaust manifold, catalytic converter oil contamination or oxygen wiring damage. Despite this code triggering the check engine light, there will be very little to notice when driving a vehicle with this fault code showing. Its highly recommended that nothing is replaced before going through the diagnostic procedures.
- P0441 – When the ECU finds an issue within the EVAP system, it can mean that the purge valve cannot regulate the fuel vapors. This is not strictly a serious issue and the car can continue to be driven without diminished performance or issues but it is advisable to have a mechanic look into the problem.
- P0171 – There can be a number of root causes that prompts this code, ranging from a weak fuel pump to a faulty oxygen sensor. Drivers may experience several symptoms like loss of power, a misfiring of the engine or generally rough running when the vehicle is idle.
