About the Micra
Known as the March in some countries, the Micra is a supermini car developed by the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan.
First sold in 1982, the Micra has enjoyed a long, successful life span with the first models boxy in appearance.
Originally the Nissan Micra was brought out to compete against other small city cars like the Daihatsu Charade, Suzuki Cultus, Honda City and the Toyota Starlet.
Replacing the Nissan Cherry, the Micra was originally designed for Fiat, but after the Italian automaker passed in favor of the Uno, the concept was sold to Nissan.
Known for its reliability and reasonable running costs, the second generation of Micra debuted in 1992. The shape had changed radically, now using the iconic bubble silhouette, the Micra had a myriad of body styles; built as a 3-door hatchback, a 5-door hatchback, a 2-door cabriolet, 4-door sedan or a 5-door station wagon.
A derivative luxury version of the Micra called the Bolero was also sold in a select few countries, these had a different front grille with full leather interior.
Third generations sold for 8 years from 2002, again this was a physically rounded vehicle with slanted headlamps and indented lines following along the door panels.
You may find these common fault codes appearing when diagnosing the Micra across all of the generations it was sold:
- P0011 – A generic code signaling the fact that bank 1 intake camshaft is more advanced than the required setting.
- P0420 – The catalyst system is below optimum efficiency. It means that oxygen levels are under the recommended threshold.
- P0340 – This code could be shown when either fault wires to the camshaft position sensor, or the sensor itself is malfunctioning.
- P0846 – The PCM has found an abnormal fluid reading from the transmission system.
- P0605 – The PCM keeps its operating system software on its own read-only memory. This code is shown when the ROM develops and issue.
