About the Altima
The Altima is a mid-sized vehicle created by the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan.
Launched in 1992, the Altima was originally a continuation of the Bluebird (dating back to 1955).
The first generations were exclusively four-wheel sedans built with a 2.4-liter gasoline engine.
Trim lines included the XE, GXE and the GLE. The latter could be purchased with the addition of the Gold Emblem package, which included molded mudguards and a stripe.
1998 saw the release of the second generation, these models were much smoother in design and a newly styled interior included changes made to the cup holders and glove compartment. There were both good and bad attributes to these new designs, whilst people were complimentary of the now roomier insides, critics hated the cheaper materials and more basic aesthetic.
Now in its sixth generation, the Altima looks like an entirely different vehicle. Available as either two 2-liter or 2.5-liter petrol, the first models were unveiled at the New York International Auto Show and had a wealth of technical features including Automatic emergency braking, intelligent around-view monitor, pro-pilot assist and lane intervention.
The Altima now uses the Nissan D Platform which it shares with the Renault Laguna III, Nissan Murano, Maxima, Teana, Renault Samsung SM5, Renault Latitude, Nissan Elgrand, Nissan Quest, Infiniti QX60, Nissan Pathfinder and the Venucia T90.
