About the Expedition
The Expedition first made its debut almost three decades ago in 1996. The full-size SUV has seen four generations hit the markets since then. The latest of these was unveiled in 2018.
It has also been sold as the Lincoln Navigator since its release.
The model typically faces competition from other large SUVS sold in North America. The most notable of these are the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, Jeep Wagoneer, and Nissan Armada.
Despite the Expedition being known for having great reliability, it has been prone to some common issues. The most common of these is fault code P0171. This code indicates that the first bank of the engine is running too lean.
This can be a very frustrating code to diagnose because of the wide range of possible causes. However, owners have reported that the vacuum tubes can become prone to leaking because of loose connections. Anything that can disrupt the air-fuel ratio can lead to this type of code being logged.
Fault code P0351 is another issue that owners have had to deal with. This code indicates that there is a problem with the number 1 ignition coil circuit.
Of course, with a code like this, the first step is to check the ignition coil and its circuit for any electrical issues. It is also likely that the coil itself needs to be replaced.
Another common issue for the Expedition is fault code P0743, which indicates that the torque converter clutch is suffering from an electrical malfunction.
One of the most commonly reported causes of this code is an issue with the torque converter clutch switch solenoid ground wire. This is a good place to start when attempting to fix this problem.
