About the Land Cruiser
A number of four-wheel drive models designed and developed by the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota, the Land Cruiser is the company’s longest-running model.
To date, the Land Cruiser has sold in excess of 10 million units in numerous forms; as a convertible, station wagon, hardtop and cab chassis style.
Dating back to 1951, the first vehicles were sold exclusively in brand-specific dealerships in Japan and now the trucks are sold worldwide.
In today’s modern market, there are a number of alternatives to the Land Cruiser (some considerably cheaper) and prospective buyers can choose from such as the Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, the Nissan Armada, Toyota 4Runner and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
Some fault codes that can originate from the Land Cruiser are:
- P0400 – A generic code that shows that the engine exhaust gas recirculation valve is malfunctioning. This can be caused by the valve not opening, the EGR temperature sensor doesn’t register the temperature change or that the EG R passages are blocked. This fault can lead to an excessive ignition in the engine that will ultimately cause damage to the piston and valves. To repair, it is recommended that the EGR be replaced. Failing this, one may clean the carbon out of the EGR tube or replace the EGR temperature sensor.
- P0500 – Fundamentally a diagnostic trouble code, this signifies that the powertrain control module finds incorrect speed readings or no signal received from the vehicle speed sensor. This code can vary depending upon the manufacturer but ultimately will cause serious issues with the overall performance of the car. Although the car will still drive, it is not advised and it’s recommended the vehicle be taken to a mechanic immediately.
