Learn More FixesFiat is an Italian car manufacturer that also owns and operates the Alfa Romeo and Lancia brands.
You may find that the same fault codes across these three brands appear more often than usual as they share many of the same components.
Fault codes such as the P0638 are more common on Fiat models and this particular error concerns the car’s fly-by-wire system. Modern models of cars typically don’t use a traditional cable to connect the accelerator peddle to the engine anymore and instead transfer the information through a wire as an electrical signal. The P0638 appears on your OBD2 reader when this signal seems to be faulty and out of range of what would be expected during normal use.
Another common fiat fault code is the P0130. This code is presented by the car when it detects that the oxygen level entering the engine is not at the level that it expects. This could be down to a problem getting the air/fuel mix to the engine or maybe down to the wrong levels in that mix throwing off the sensors – it could even be a sensor itself playing up!
If you see the U0422 fault code present itself on your Fiat car then it means that it is experiencing a problem communicating with the body control module. This body control module handles all of the electronics that are associated with the body of the car including the windscreen wipers and the door locks.
