P0245 Fault Code

Long Description

Fault code P0245 is logged when the engine’s primary computer, the powertrain control module (PCM), has detected an issue within the wastegate solenoid A circuit for the turbocharger system.

This code represents that the voltage in solenoid A of the wastegate is too low.

Turbochargers are a type of forced induction system that provides compressed air to an engine. This is typically done to increase the efficiency and power of a smaller engine.

The wastegate is necessary to control the flow of exhaust fumes to the turbocharger turbine. It purges excess gas from the turbocharger system as waste.

The wastegate solenoids are used to control the opening and closing of the wastegate valve, controlling the speed of the turbine.

Only cars with turbochargers can suffer from this fault code. Manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and Subaru are some of the most commonly searched alongside this fault code.

Other Signs of This Problem

There can be a number of noticeable issues when it comes to a fault with the wastegate solenoid.

One of the most obvious symptoms will be the Check Engine light on the dashboard.

There may be other turbocharger fault codes logged as well. These can be codes like P0234 to P0242. Additionally, there may be fault codes for the wastegate solenoid as well like P0243 to P0250.

What Could Be The Problem?

It is likely that there is a fault in the wiring of the circuit. These can be issues like damaged or frayed wires or loose connections. This is one of the simplest ways to cause a low voltage condition in a circuit.
