Description Icon Long Description

Fault code P0094 is a broad code that is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected a small leak from somewhere in the fuel system.

This is obviously not a hugely problematic code for a number of reasons. The fact that the leak is classified as small will reduce a lot of the negative effects that it can have on safety and the vehicle’s performance.

If a larger leak is present, it becomes a more severe issue that should be addressed immediately.

Unfortunately, the code is rather broad in its description, meaning that fixing the code typically requires inspecting the entire fuel system and its various components.

Citroen, Fiat, Ford, and Volvo are among the most common manufacturers to suffer from this code, but all vehicles are susceptible to it.

Warnings Icon Other Signs of This Problem

Because of the nature of the leak, it can be fairly hard to pick up on any symptoms. This means it is important to pay attention to the more obvious ones.

The most obvious sign will be the presence of the Check Engine light on the dashboard.

Although it may not be very noticeable, a logical symptom would be running out fuel faster than expected due to losses from the leak. Again, this could be very minor though and hard to notice.

Another sign that can be a dead giveaway is the smell of fuel from the car. This may be slight though.

Be sure to look out for other fault codes that relate to the fuel system. The most notable include P0090, P0091, P0092, and P0093.

Broken Down Icon What Could Be The Problem?

Unlike a lot of other fault codes, this code is fairly straightforward with what the cause is. The vast majority of the time, this code will be logged as a result of a leak in the fuel system. In addition to this, there may be some other issue in the fuel system causing it.

A faulty fuel pressure sensor is one of the most likely causes if there is not an actual leak present.

As the code indicates, it is possible that there is a small leak somewhere in the fuel system. This can be from failing components or damaged hoses.

A clogged fuel filter can also cause this code to be logged, without a leak being present.

In addition to a clogged filter, it is also possible that the fuel pressure regulator is faulty, causing the code to be logged.

Fixed Icon Fixes

Fixing this fault code should be done in a methodical manner. This can help save time by preventing unnecessary labor.

The first step should be checking the singular components that can cause the issue. This first to be checked should be the fuel pressure sensor. If the sensor is faulty, it should be replaced.

After that, the fuel pressure regulator should also be checked.

The fuel filter must also be checked for issues like clogging and other faults. It should be replaced if it is faulty.

If all of these components are in good condition, the entire fuel system needs to be inspected for signs of a leak. Whatever component is causing the leak needs to be replaced or repaired.

Danger Icon Seriousness

Fault code P0094 is a moderately serious code. While it does not pose a huge risk to the vehicle or impact performance greatly, it is very dangerous to have fuel leaks as this is a huge fire hazard.

It is a good idea to have this code fixed as soon as possible to prevent unnecessary risk.
