Description Icon Long Description

Fault code P2112 is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an issue with the throttle actuator control system. This happens when the PCM thinks the actuator is stuck closed.

The throttle actuator works in conjunction with the throttle pedal to regulate the amount of air coming into the combustion chamber at any given time.

When input is given to the throttle pedal by the driver, the throttle actuator opens and closes accordingly. This change in airflow through the intake increases or decreases the load on the engine.

An actuator that is stuck closed will not allow any air into the intake, causing the air-fuel mixture to be thrown off completely.

These components are typically found only in petrol engines. However, some modern diesel engines also rely on a throttle body.

Ford is one of the most often searched when it comes to this fault code. Jeep and other General Motors brands are also fairly commonly associated with P2112. Again, these are typically only vehicles with petrol/gasoline engines.

Warnings Icon Other Signs of This Problem

Because of the importance of the throttle system, there can be very noticeable symptoms for a fault code like this.

One of the most obvious signs will be the presence of the Check Engine light on the dashboard.

Another obvious sign can be that the throttle is unresponsive when depressing the pedal. This can become a serious problem.

Other signs of this issue can include the engine not starting at all, reduced performance, and drastically lowered fuel economy.

There may also be other similar fault codes logged. These can be codes like P0122 to P0124, P0510, and P0638.

Broken Down Icon What Could Be The Problem?

The cause for this issue can involve mechanical faults in the throttle body system, as well as electrical faults in the circuits that control these parts.

A faulty throttle body assembly or throttle actuator control sensor is some of the most common causes of this issue. This can easily cause the throttle body to be stuck closed.

Additionally, faulty or damaged throttle plates and linkages can also be the cause.

A throttle body position sensor that has malfunctioned will also result in this problem.

In terms of electrical issues, damaged wires or loose connections within the throttle body actuator control circuit or the throttle body position sensor circuit can also mean this fault code gets logged.

Fixed Icon Fixes

Fixes for P2112 will typically involve electrical repairs or replacing faulty mechanical components.

Both the throttle body position sensor and the throttle actuator control sensor need to be checked. If either is faulty, they need to be replaced.

All relevant circuits must be checked for faults like damaged wires or loose connections. These need to be fixed accordingly.

A defective throttle body or throttle actuator must be replaced. Other faulty components like throttle linkages and plates need to be replaced as well.

Danger Icon Seriousness

Fault code P2112 is considered a serious problem. It can completely halt the driveability of the vehicle because the throttle does not work. This can also become very dangerous.

It is strongly recommended to have this fault code be fixed immediately. Do not drive with this fault code.
