B1310 Fault Code

Long Description

Fault code B1310 is a manufacturer-specified code related to an issue with one of the body systems. In this case, it is logged when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected a failure in the power door lock system.

This fault code means the vehicle is not unlocking correctly, compromising its main security system. This can be a very serious issue depending on the operating conditions the vehicle is in.

This code should not be confused with B1310, which represents “Run/Start Control Circuit Short to Ground or Open”

Ford, Peugeot, and Smart are some of the most commonly reported when it comes to this fault code. However, any vehicle with a power locking system is susceptible to this issue.

Other Signs of This Problem

Unlike some other fault codes, this will not trigger the Check Engine light to be illuminated as the B-codes are reserved for body systems.

The easiest way to detect the issue is the vehicle will be unable to unlock when using the key fob.

In some vehicles, it will automatically unlock all the doors when the driver door is opened. If this does not happen, it is possible this code will be logged.

It is also possible that the trunk of the vehicle will also suffer issues when attempting to unlock it.

Another similar fault code to look out for is B1311. Other power door lock circuit failure codes include B1300, which represents the system failing to lock.

What Could Be The Problem?

All of the potential causes for this issue will be found in the power lock system as it is a closed system.

The most likely cause of this B1310 code is a faulty power lock door relay. This relay sends the signal from itself to the door lock actuators. This signal either opens or closes these actuators.

Additionally, the door lock actuators can be defective or damaged. This will prevent the signal from opening or closing a faulty actuator.

Damaged components in the power lock door circuit could also prevent the signals from reaching the required components. These can be things like damaged or frayed wires and loose connections.

Fixes

As the potential causes for this issue are likely to be found exclusively in the power door lock system, the fixes will either consist of replacing faulty parts or repairing circuitry.

A defective door lock relay should be replaced if any issues are detected.

Wiring and connections should also be checked for damage, fraying, or looseness. These should be fixed if found.

The door and trunk lock actuators should be tested as well. If any of them are defective, they need to be fixed or replaced.

Seriousness

The seriousness of B1310 depends entirely on the owner. Some will find an issue with the vehicle being unable to lock very seriously, while others may not.
